Funny Video: Obama in Elkhart
June 5, 2016
I had heard that Obama gave a speech in Indiana making the case for voting for Democrats, but I had no idea of the, er, eloquence and elegance of his arguments…
You Don’t Need Math to Follow the Path…

Granted, Wikipedia is greatly improved since its early days. Often it now cites its sources; often inaccurate information is removed almost as soon as a rogue editor adds it.
Still, for anyone who carelessly assumes that Wikipedia today is simply accurate and trustworthy, occasionally Wikipedia itself provides a cautionary reminder. From the first paragraph, the very top, of the article on Jainism:
It prescribes ahimsa (non-violence) towards all living beings to the most possible extent. The five main principles of Jainism are ahimsa, anekantavada (non-absolutism), aparigraha (non-possessiveness) and guruajna (obeyance of the preachings of the preacher).
Further down in the article, it talks about the “extreme difficulty” of “attaining true faith”. I don’t see what’s so difficult; all you have to do is embody five out of four principles!
Trump: Boy, Those Immigrants Sure Do Mistreat Women
February 8, 2016
Trump’s history of misogyny is not limited to Kelly, Brenner, and Ivana. For decades, he has degraded and objectified women, from Rosie O’Donnell to his own daughter, Ivanka.
Trump even admitted this was his M.O.
“You have to treat ’em like shit,” Trump told friend Philip Johnson, according to New York.

The Plonking Earnestness of the New York Times
October 21, 2015
I saw this headline on a New York Times column:
“The Scary Specter of Ted Cruz”
I thought it was meant ironically. (The over-the-top double deprecation is a clear signal, right?) I thought, That’s interesting! Someone writing in the New York Times is actually going to push back on some of the left’s more extreme emotional overreactions to conservatism, possibly even using humor and poking fun at them.
Liberal News Media Read like an Onion Article

With leftists like these, who needs parody?
With Obama only a few lines into his speech, Jennicet Gutiérrez, a undocumented trans woman involved in queer and immigration activism, called on the president to end the confinement and deportation of LGBTQ undocumented immigrants. “President Obama,” she cried out, “release all LGBTQ immigrants from detention and stop all deportations.” Gutiérrez’s protests were quickly met with shushing from the crowd, which, according to multiple reports from the room, consisted largely of white, cisgender, gay men.

If NPR can’t make it sound good, no one can:
It’s a recent morning out in California’s Mojave Desert, and Marine Lance Cpls. Paula Pineda and Julia Carroll are struggling to pick up and maneuver Carl. He’s a 220-pound dummy, and a stand-in for a wounded Marine.
Carroll’s knees buckle for a moment, but as a dusty wind picks up, the two women pull Carl off their light armored vehicle. They carry him to safety, careful not to let his head drag on the rocky ground.
So that’s something!
Capturing the Coveted Anti-reality Vote
November 7, 2014
NPR this week, trying to explain why Republicans beat Democrats so badly in Tuesday’s elections:
People who came out to register their distress with Obama or congressional Democrats — or with any aspect of current reality — were more likely to vote Republican for governor, as well.

NPR Freudian Slip?
September 11, 2014
Heard on the local NPR station this morning, the first day of their fund drive:
“. . . and your guilt—uh, your gift—will help cover the cost of that . . . .”
No kidding.
They also forgot to mention that we’re already paying a lot that they didn’t ask for politely (direct government spending + CPB = 16.0% of NPR’s funding).
Politically Correct Humor
July 25, 2014
Via Sense and Snarkability (“Jon Gabriel went to the Lefty gathering Netroots Nation, and discovered how humorless and boring the Left is”): Jon Gabriel has a great piece up at Ricochet. He attended the liberal-blogger conference “Netroots” (sometimes known as “Nutroots”…) and reports on what they’re telling each other about humor and cultural engagement.
