Even NPR Agrees: Maybe the Culture of Fornication and the Atomization of Society Aren’t Such a Good Thing
August 13, 2015
In a pair of stories this evening, NPR wonders whether some of the secular left’s remaking of society has been such a good deal for most of us, and starts to sound almost like the church, or Mark Steyn.
From “In Twitter Rant, Tinder Blasts ‘Vanity Fair’ Article On New York Dating Culture”:
Nancy Jo Sales’ article devoted five thousand words to the modern dating culture spawned by Tinder and other similar apps. It wasn’t a pretty picture.
‘It’s not bribing him with sex to get him to marry you (in fact, that’s what cohabitation attempts to do)’
June 16, 2012
I ran across this comment from Roxeanne de Luca, and thought it bore repeating:
Oh, heavens. Women wasting their waning child-bearing years on men who won’t commit to them is a rant in of itself. A society that does not condemn men who refuse to commit to women is another rant. A third rant is men who waste women’s time, so that the women they take to bed may never have the children they desperately want.
This Just In: No-strings-attached Sex Will Not Make Men Marry You, or Make Them Responsible
May 18, 2012
Via Wintery Knight, another woman (observing women she has known personally) makes similar observations about feminism and the sexual revolution:
I’ve known many of these women — a great many — and it never ceases to confound me how smart women can be such ridiculous fools when it comes to choosing men.
Feminist Nightmare
May 13, 2012
Happy Mother’s Day, the final day of National Offend a Feminist Week. I don’t know whether being told that they have ironically ushered in a Brave New World of women’s degradation will offend feminists or not, but here goes:
In the wake of feminism and the sexual revolution, our society has degenerated surprisingly far (and continues to degenerate?) toward some kind of pre-civilizational nightmare dystopia in which men don’t respect women, and women don’t even respect themselves, as even those who exploit it will sometimes tell you:
The reason why I can string along multiple women is because each woman thinks she’s the girlfriend and the others are just women I have sex with.
Activist within IRS Trying to Intimidate Conservatives?
April 23, 2012
Wintery Knight has the news: “Human Rights Campaign leaks list of pro-marriage donors and their addresses” (read the whole thing).
On March 30th, the Huffington Post published tax documents from the National Organization for Marriage.
The tax return listed the names and addresses of dozens of NOM’s major donors in 2008. All of this information is submitted to the IRS on a confidential basis and is not available for lawful public disclosure.
In an April 12th statement, NOM explains how it was able to determine that the document was leaked directly from the IRS, not by a NOM “whistleblower” (as the Huffington Post had claimed or implied).
Feminism Hurts Women
March 30, 2012
Via Eternity Matters (“The Real War on Women”), Wintery Knight sums up feminism and the sexual revolution:
A few decades back, a vocal minority of women decided to revolt against chastity, small government, low taxes, marriage, courtship, and motherhood. They decided that it was better to be able to have recreational sex before marriage, to put their own careers ahead of motherhood, to liberalize divorce laws, to pay women to have children without being married, to vote for higher taxes, to expand government to offer social programs and redistribution schemes, and to assault the traditional gender roles of husbands and fathers. Most men had nothing to do with starting this revolution, but men in general went along with it because they wanted freely available recreational sex more than they wanted children to be safe in stable, married homes.
Almost as if Someone Had Designed It That Way…

Via Five Feet of Fury and Instapundit, another blogger (who is definitely not a chastity advocate generally) suggests an interesting way in which even the culture of fornication may inadvertently be creating renewed pressure for women to be chaste (warning: language):
However, such changes don’t happen in a vaccuum. As the sexual marketplace changed, male behavior also changed. So, not only are there fewer men now deemed marriageable, but those fewer men face significent negative incentives to marry. As per the law of supply and demand, the “price” of a husband of even moderate socio-sexual rank has gone up due to the decline in the supply.
