Antifa Mob Beats Peaceful Protesters

Tiny and Joey

Wow.

Long-form journalism isn’t dead.

Also, man is fallen and his capacity for evil never ceases to amaze.

OK, for those without the time or the inclination to read the whole story from beginning to end at its own pace, here’s as good a summary by excerpt as any:

. . . founder of Patriot Prayer [Joey Gibson says things] like “moderates have to come together” and “love and peace [are] the only way to heal this country.” . . .

First he catches a slap in the head, then someone gashes him with something in his ribs. He keeps his hands up, as though that will save him, while he keeps getting dragged backwards by his shirt, Tiny trying to pull him away from the bloodthirsty ninjas. Someone crashes a flagpole smack on Joey’s head . . . .

My reportorial dispassion has worn thin. I yell at the police for doing nothing, for standing by while two men could’ve been killed. One cop tells me there’s a thin line between solving one problem and being the cause of more, as though they’re afraid to offend antifa. I am sick at what I just witnessed. Angry, even. I wheel around on some protesters, asking them if they think it’s right to beat people down in the street. “Hell yeah,” says one.

Others’ takes:

Jonah Goldberg:

I remember when Antifa types first started showing up on television breaking stuff, setting fires, punching people, and the like, my wife said, “Those are just idiot boys looking for an excuse to break stuff and get in fights.”

Can anyone really dispute that this is a huge part of what’s going on with all these radicals on the left and the alt-right? A big swathe of the bad things that have happened over the last 10,000 years can be attributed to hormonally charged young men pulling stupid crap.

Marc Thiessen:

My mother and grandfather fought the Nazis in Poland during World War II, and her family then endured the Stalinist terror that followed, when Nazi occupation was replaced by Soviet domination. So forgive me if I see little moral distinction between the swastika and the hammer and sickle. Both are evil, and their modern adherents need to be condemned — especially when they dare to commit acts of violence in our midst to advance their hateful visions.

Both the left and the right have a responsibility to police their own movements. . . .

Those on the left have responsibilities as well — responsibilities few are meeting.
