Great Minds Think Alike?

November 4, 2010

(Well, no, that doesn’t actually seem appropriate.)

I got the current issue of National Review in the mail yesterday, and I was surprised to learn that someone else had also been writing about repealing the Seventeenth Amendment (requires subscription).  (I wrote about the problem of the Seventeenth Amendment just this past Saturday.)  Of course Mr. Zywicki’s article is longer and more erudite than mine, with more arguments and more references to history, but it also basically agrees with what I said (down to quoting the same Federalist Paper, number 51), which tends to reinforce my conclusions.

He doesn’t propose a new amendment, though, to make up the deficiency created by the Seventeenth Amendment; he simply suggests repealing it.  May it happen!

Agree? Disagree? Thoughts?
